THOUGHTS
  • Change - not policy, but social movement
  • This conversation at two levels--our own learning and creating personal strategies for learning, but meta level as well of thinking about how to hold conversations/events/? that help people take charge of their own learning narratives?
  • "Taking back the learning"
  • "Education Revolution" name brought out many more people
  • We all have learning stories, this understanding of learning can come from any group
  • Building a narrative
  • Goal?:  we can and should have these conversations (model this?)
  • Steve:  learning in conversations, so built a series of conversations to learn.  Like did with interview series.
  • This activity - hold with children / students / teachers / parents?
  • "Ask 3 before me" classroom rule
  • Golden question:  how do we help people hold conversations about learning?
  • Maker activities
  • Disruption:  maker movement?  Gary's flyer outside the school--don't take this test.  Bartleby Initiative from Gatto
  • Sylvia:  talk and do.  Marching?
  • Biographies:  "and s/he had a sickly childhood..." taken out of school?
  • Marieke - Education Revolution, Open School, "want my 18-year-old to be an adult"
  • Possible new opening question for evening:  Passion?  -->  how did you learn it?
  • Gary:  "Be an interesting kid" / "The best thing you can do for kids it to have them be around interesting adults"
